Youngsoo Kim, PBA president, won the grand prize at the 15th Sogang Sports Awards

Professional Billiards Association (PBA) President Kim Young-soo (81) won the Grand Prize, the highest honor at the Sogang Sports Awards.

The PBA said on the 3rd, “PBA president Kim Young-soo won the grand prize at the ’15th Sogang Sports Awards’ ceremony held at the Koreana 토토사이트Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.”

The Sogang Sports Awards were established in 2009 to honor Sogang Min Gwan-sik (1918-2006), who was called the ‘father of the modernization of Korean sports’ and served as the president of the Korea Sports Council, and celebrated its 15th this year.

The Sogang Min-gwan Dietary Education Foundation (Chairman Jeong Dae-cheol) held three screening committee meetings with figures from various fields of sports since last January and selected President Kim as the winner of the 15th grand prize.

President Kim served as the 33rd Minister of Culture and Sports, the 5th President of KBL, and the Organizing Committee of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games. President Kim served as the president of the PBA, which opened as the world’s first 3-cushion professional organization in Korea in 2019, and contributed to the development of Korean billiards as the Mecca of world billiards.

In particular, the stable settlement of LPBA (Women’s Professional Billiards) led to a rapid increase in female billiard players, and had a decisive influence on settling billiards as a ‘leisure culture to enjoy’ regardless of gender and age. Here, it is evaluated that the ‘PBA Team League’, which is operated by team, was launched for the first time, realizing the same framework as major sports, and introducing a new billiards marketing with a new game management system and the creation of teams by leading domestic companies.

In his acceptance speech, President Kim said, “It is an honor to receive such a great award at such a meaningful event. I will continue to do my best not only for the development of professional billiards, but also for the development of Korean sports.”
